The international conference on East Asian Maritime World in the World History will be held on June 18th to 19th in Fudan University. Jointly held by the Institute of Oriental Culture in the University of Tokyo and National Institute for Advanced Humanistic Studies in Fudan University. 15 scholars from China, Japan and the US will attend the conference.
The conference will focus its discussion on the history of East Asian cultural interaction over three centuries, 1250 to 1350, 1500 to 1600, and 1700 to 1800. The following questions are of primary interest: what interaction and conflicts had there been, among nations and cultures around the East Asian sea area? What changes had since happened when they viewed and imagined each other? Why did this specific sea area seem vast and peaceful at some times, while narrow and crowded at others?
