The Fourteenth Annual Summer Workshop: “Studies of Asian Arts, Religion, and History”
National Institute for Advanced Humanistic Studies, Fudan University, Shanghai, China
June 23 – July 2, 2025
To promote international academic exchange and student training in the fields of Asian religion, art, and history, the National Institute for Advanced Humanistic Studies at Fudan University, in collaboration with the Institute for Advanced Studies on Asia at the University of Tokyo, the Department of East Asian Studies at the University of Göttingen, and the Li Ka Shing Foundation Program in the Department of History at the University of California, Berkeley, will jointly organize the 14th Summer Workshop on "Asian Art, Religion, and History" at Fudan University (220 Handan Road, Shanghai).
The theme of this year's workshop is "Asian Religions, History, and Texts in the History of Eastern and Western Scholarship."
The workshop will offer six courses, taught by distinguished professors from Japan, the United States, China, and Germany. In addition to lectures, the program will feature group discussions and field studies. Participants are required to complete a course paper upon conclusion of the program.
I. Eligibility
1. 15 doctoral candidates from universities in Europe and North America specializing in Asian religion, art, or history (Applicants must have proficiency in spoken and written Chinese).
2. 25 master's or doctoral students in the humanities from universities in mainland China.
3. 5 – 6 doctoral candidates from universities in Asia (such as Japan and South Korea) specializing in Asian religion, art, or history (Applicants must have proficiency in spoken and written Chinese).

IV. Costs
1. Costs associated with field trips and research activities included in the schedule
2. Accommodation expenses for overseas and non-local students during the workshop
3. Meal expenses for all students during the workshop
V. Certificate
A certificate of completion will be issued to all students who have fulfilled the course requirements.
