China Ministry of Education Changjiang Scholar and Special-Appointment Professor, dean of the Department of Chinese, Fudan University, and concurrently Vice-Chairman of the Society of Contemporary Chinese Literature. Specializes in the study of modern and contemporary Chinese literature, comparative literature and contemporary literary criticism. Publications include: New Literature in China: An Overall Study, A Serious-Study Biography of Ba Jin — Development of His Moral Character, and a number of collections of critical essays on literature such as Burning Midnight Oil. Winner of Ministry of Education Textbook Prize and the Shanghai Philosophy and Social Science Special Achievement Prize ( 1^st class ).
