Honorary Professor, Kyoto University. Specializes in the study of Chinese social history during the Ming and Qing Periods. Publications include: A Study of Philanthropic Societies and Philanthropic Halls in China , Korean Embassies to Beijing and Korean Embassies to Japan (in Korean), Korean Embassies to Beijing and Korean Embassies to Japan: China and Japan in the Embassadors’ Eyes (in Chinese). Editor-in-chief of The Complete Yanxing Literature (the Part in Japan’s Holding), An Analytical Study of the Revised and Supplemented Notes of the Envoy to Ryukyu, Essays on the History of Chinese Diplomacy and Cultural Exchange in East Asia and A Social and Historical Study on Chinese Litigation System. Representative essays include: “Litigation Masters and the Litigation System in Ming and Qing China”, “An Overview of the Secret Handbooks of Litigation Masters”, “The Perception of the Japanese School of Ancient Learning by Korean Embassies to Japan: Compared with the Perception of Han Learning in the Qing Era by Korean Embassies to Beijing”. Awarded the Japan Academy Prize.
