Research areas include: historical philology, Chinese sources on Central Asia (esp. on Turks) ,history of relationships between ancient China and neighboring countries.

Publications include: Correction of the Chronology in Zi-zhi Tong-jian, The Tujue Khanate and the history of their Relations with the Sui and the Tang, The Compile and proof of Tang Shu, The Chronicle of Chinese Historical Sources on the Second Tujue Khanate, and some papers.
