Nicolas Standaert


PhD in Sinology, University of Leiden, Netherlands; Bachelor in Philosophy and Theology, Centre Sèvres, Paris; Master in Theology Fujen Catholic University. Professor and dean of the Department of Chinese Studies, University of K.U. Leuven, and member of the Belgium Royal Academy of Sciences. Specializes in the study of the history of Sino-European cultural relations during the late Ming and early Qing. Publications include: Yang Tingyun: Confucian and Christian in Late Ming China, The Fascinating God: A Challenge to Modern Chinese Theology Presented by a Text on the Name of God Written by a 17th Century Chinese Student of Theology, Inculturation: The Gospel and Cultures, Methodology in View of Contact Between Cultures: The China Case in the 17th Century, The Interweaving of Rituals: Funerals in the Cultural Exchange between China and Europe, etc.
