     In this presentation, I shall focus on the following points: 1. The background and the rise of tathāgatagarbha teaching as found in the Mahāparinirvāṇamahāsūtra (MPMS) and the Tathāgatagarbhasūtra (TGS) along with a grammatical analysis of two different formulas; 2. The importance and the purpose of proclaiming the absolute existence of a tathāgata within sentient beings.
